A fire broke out at a restaurant within Bangkok's Royal City Avenue (RCA) entertainment district on October 6th, sending thick black smoke billowing across the city skyline. The blaze started around 5:11 PM at an establishment adjacent to the popular Route 66 nightclub, though authorities haven't confirmed the restaurant's name. Firefighters responded immediately to the scene in Huai Khwang district, battling intense flames visible in videos shared on social media. While no injuries have been reported, it remains unclear how many people were inside when the fire began. This marks the second fire incident at RCA since 2018, when another blaze damaged a different venue in the popular nightlife area.
Former Boxing Champion in Drunken Store Brawl
Former IBF flyweight world champion Amnat Ruenroeng was filmed in a physical altercation inside a convenience store while appearing heavily intoxicated. The video showed the 43-year-old ex-boxer initiating the confrontation by pushing a young man, who responded by punching him in self-defense. The situation escalated into a full fight where Amnat fell to the floor and was briefly kicked before being helped up afterward. The young man later explained he acted purely in self-defense after attempts to de-escalate failed. Amnat, a decorated Olympian and former national champion, officially retired from boxing in 2022 after a distinguished career.
Google Maps Misroutes Driver, Sparks Thai Highway Update
A Thai driver's viral post revealed Google Maps mistakenly directed him onto the unfinished M81 motorway to Kanchanaburi instead of a Bangkok mall, causing a two-hour detour. The Department of Highways has urgently requested Google update its navigation data for the motorway, which remains in a trial phase with limited access. While the M81's construction is complete, it currently operates only on weekends and lacks proper exits, leading to widespread confusion. The incident prompted the department to accelerate installation of clearer road signs and lane markings at key junctions. Meanwhile, the viral story inspired creative marketing responses from local businesses turning the mishap into a promotional opportunity.
Flooding in Ayutthaya Claims Four Lives
Severe flooding in Ayutthaya province has resulted in four drowning deaths, including a 4-year-old girl who fell from a cargo boat into the Pa Sak River. Two 16-year-old boys also drowned while swimming in strong currents in Sena district, while a 14-year-old boy from Ang Thong province perished near a dam. In a separate incident, an 87-year-old man was found deceased beneath his flooded home. Authorities continue to warn residents of hazardous conditions as many communities remain submerged and dependent on boats for transportation.
Armed Gang Robs Gold Shop in Southern Thailand, Flees to Malaysia

In a brazen Sunday night heist, approximately ten armed robbers stormed a gold shop in a Sungai Kolok shopping mall, seizing an estimated 36 million baht worth of gold ornaments. The assailants used road spikes and a homemade bomb to obstruct police, briefly detained security guards, and injured an army sergeant during their escape in two stolen pickup trucks. Authorities believe the group then crossed into Malaysia via a natural trail in Waeng district early Monday. While not yet confirmed, the tactics used—including explosives and roadblocks—are consistent with methods employed by southern insurgents. Thai police are now coordinating with Malaysian authorities to track the suspects and recover the stolen gold.
Bangkok Sinkhole Repair Progresses with Safety First
Essential soil safety tests are currently delaying the complete filling of the large sinkhole on Samsen Road in Bangkok's Dusit district. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt reported that about 4,000 cubic meters of sand have already reduced the hole's depth from 20 to 15 meters. Officials are using a coring technique to test soil layers, ensuring the ground is stable before continuing repairs and eventually reopening the road. The adjacent, severely damaged Samsen Police Station is being demolished as it teetered on the edge of the collapse. While the nearby police flats and Vajira Hospital are confirmed to be secure, there is still no confirmed date for when Samsen Road will reopen to traffic.
