Thailand Tightens Ride-Hailing Rules for Safety

Thailand will implement new ride-hailing regulations in October, redefining platforms from intermediaries to active service regulators with greater accountability. The rules mandate digital ID verification for drivers and passengers, valid public driving licenses, and vehicles registered for public service. Drivers must verify their identity each login and cannot share accounts, while passengers gain access to real-time journey tracking and transparent fares. Companies like Grab and LINE MAN Wongnai support the changes but note challenges regarding vehicle registration for financed or rented cars. The reforms aim to align Thailand's ride-hailing industry with global safety standards while building passenger trust through increased transparency.

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority has deployed water tankers to provide emergency supplies to hospitals and residents while repairs are underway. Officials have not yet provided a timeline for restoring full water service, urging residents to conserve water and monitor updates.
Foreigners Accused of Using Children to Sell Roses in Pattaya
Business owners in Pattaya have raised alarms after witnessing foreign adults using young children, some as young as one year old, to sell roses to tourists on Walking Street in the early morning hours. The children reportedly pressure tourists by clinging to their arms, leading to uncomfortable encounters and forced purchases of 100-baht flowers. Local operators warn this practice is damaging Pattaya’s reputation as a family-friendly destination and taking opportunities away from Thai vendors. Despite previous police crackdowns, the groups continue to operate, leading to calls for more consistent enforcement. Residents are urging authorities to take stronger action to protect both children and the city’s tourism image.

The driver had escaped on foot before authorities arrived, leaving behind the vehicle with significant front-end damage. Police seized the abandoned truck and are reviewing CCTV footage that captured the fleeing vehicle sparking along the road. Investigators suspect the driver may have been concealing illegal items and have launched a search while urging public assistance.
