Samsen Police Station Tilts Toward Sinkhole

Inspections reveal the Samsen Police Station has tilted 2 millimeters toward the massive sinkhole that opened on Wednesday, with visible cracks worsening by Thursday morning. The building's foundation piles and supporting columns have been damaged, compromising its structural integrity. Authorities warn that if the station collapses, it could also impact the adjacent police staff accommodation building. Officials have strictly prohibited public access to the area while further evaluation is conducted by an expert committee. The sinkhole, approximately 50 meters deep, formed during subway construction work in front of the police station.

Thai Actor Arrests Thieves After Police Inaction

Thai actor Charlie "Nack" Trairat reported a 20-million-baht theft at his Bangkok home, including rare musical instruments and collectibles, after which he took matters into his own hands. Despite police later arresting two suspects who attempted to sell his stolen guitars online, Nack claimed he personally tracked and raided the thieves' hideout himself. The actor alleged months of police inaction prompted his independent investigation and recovery of items. Authorities have charged the suspects with theft and possession of stolen goods, while one also faces drug charges. Nack's case highlights ongoing public frustration with law enforcement responsiveness in property crime investigations.

Thai Astronomers Help Discover Black Widow Pulsar

Two Thai astronomers from NARIT have contributed to the international discovery of a new black widow pulsar, PSR J1544–2555, which spins every 2.4 milliseconds and orbits a companion star every 2.7 hours. The finding was part of the Trapum project using South Africa’s MeerKAT radio telescope, combining gamma-ray, optical, and radio observations. Black widow pulsars are rare systems where the pulsar consumes its companion star, with only about 50 known to exist. The discovery highlights Thailand’s growing role in radio astronomy, supported by its national observatory in Chiang Mai and international collaborations. This research advances understanding of binary star systems and pulsar evolution.

WAT PHRA THAT PHANOM

Wat Phra That Phanom is one of the six most important Buddhist temples in Thailand and a highly sacred place for Buddhists. The temple is located in the northeastern part of the country near the Laos border, around 50 kilometers from Nakhon Phanom town. The main feature of the temple is its tall, square-shaped pagoda, which is believed to contain relics of the Lord Buddha’s chest, making it an important pilgrimage site.

The pagoda has a long history, being originally built before the 12th century and believed to have been designed in the Khmer style before later renovations gave it its current Laotian look. Over time, the pagoda has been damaged by natural events, including an earthquake and a rainstorm in 1975 that caused it to collapse. The Thai people raised funds to rebuild it, and many valuable items, including a 110-kilogram gold spire, were added during the restoration. Visitors can now enjoy the beautifully restored temple, which combines old bricks with new construction and features golden lotus patterns.

Wat Phra That Phanom is open daily and attracts many Thai and Asian visitors, especially during its yearly festival in the third lunar month, when the temple gets very crowded and lively. Its location far from popular tourist destinations means it is less visited by foreign tourists, but it remains a special place for many Thais and Buddhists. People born in the Year of the Monkey or on a Sunday find it particularly meaningful to visit this temple.

The dish has a bold, spicy flavor, with sour lime, umami from fish sauce and toasted rice powder, and freshness from the herbs.
